Chosen Family

May’s 2nd Sunday gathering, "Chosen Family,” is about leaving family, seeking family, and the family that God creates.

For many in the Queer community, being loved and accepted by family isn’t a given. So Queer kindred create families of their own, parenting each other, loving each other, and choosing each other to rely on.

Mother’s Day is a good moment to explore what makes a family, and share with honesty about the damage families can do, and the love families can give.

We’ll explore stories in the bible of Jesus rejecting and accepting chosen family, and explore how God calls us to a new family through the metaphor of adoption.

Together, we’ll create symbols of family that we can take home with us, to treasure all that we explore together, and we’ll share a few sweets, to taste the comfort that love offers us.

For the safety of all we'll continue to mask. We have begun singing indoors while wearing masks.

Dreams and Visions is an LGBTQ+ rooted community. We honor your full selves, use your pronouns, and do our best to create trauma-informed spaces. Gender neutral bathrooms are available. While the lower level is accessible by ramp, the new worship space is located up a set of stairs. Please contact Vicar Claire at vicar@stmarksbaltimore.org if you have trouble navigating stairs, and we will work with you to create a plan.

Dreams and Visions staff keep an eye on COVID data to ensure that community policies stay up to date. For now, we remain masked at all indoor gatherings. We sing while wearing masks. Each time we gather, we confirm safety preferences with those present to ensure that everyone is comfortable. As always, these precautions are intended to help all who join us feel at home.
